Invincible Commander by Claire Chapter 12

Chapter 12 The Enraged Lunatic

Sam stared at Avery with a blank look on his face. What the f**k was this about? He did not need a woman to protect him!

If word got out that he, a Five-Star General, had sought protection from a woman, he was going to be the biggest joke of the century.

Sam shook his head with a sigh.

The Diaz family watched in amusement, ridicule apparent on their faces.

“Damn, this is hilarious!”

“A man, needing protection from his poor little wife? Now that’s a first!”

“F**k, this is the first time something like is happening in Queenstown!”

“Shit, can he even be considered a man?”

Sam was amused. He did not know how to feel about having a woman attempt to protect him like that. This was the first time something like this had happened to him.

Lucas narrowed his eyes and stared icily at Sam. “Be a man and stand up for yourself, f**ker! What kind of man hides behind a frail woman? You’re even worse than a lunatic! You don’t deserve to live!”

Lucas turned and glanced at Mateo, the venomous look in his eyes apparent. He said frostily, “Mr. Williams, make sure that this lunatic is dead by the end of the day. If you can’t do it, I’ll handle it!”

Mateo smiled at Lucas. “Leave it up to me, Mr. Johnson. There’s no need for you to dirty your hands. I’ll take care of everything for you. You won’t have to worry about this lunatic anymore because he won’t live to see another day.”

Robert started shouting at Avery after listening to Lucas and Mateo’s conversation. “Avery, are you crazy? This matter has nothing to do with you, so stop throwing a tantrum and just say yes to Mr. Johnson! This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for you and the Diazes!”

He paused to take a breath, then continued, “Stop causing a fuss, Avery. Even if you end up as Mr. Johnson’s mistress, it’s still a blessing from the heavens!”

Liam watched the whole thing with a stormy look on his face. He wanted nothing more than for Avery to drop dead immediately. However, now was not the time for wishful thinking.

Liam shot Avery a disdainful look. “Avery, stop acting so high and mighty. You probably did a lot of good deeds in your past life to have someone like Mr. Johnson interested in you.”

The guests continued watching in interest.

Linda also tugged on Avery’s hand. “Avery, this isn’t the time to act rashly. Since Mr. Johnson’s interested in you, just give in to him and you’ll be able to live a life of opulence!”

Avery’s face was ashen. She could not believe that these people, her own flesh and blood, could be so shameless.

Tears started to trickle down her face as despair washed over her. Everything that she had believed in and wanted to protect had been smashed to smithereens by her own family.

She had yet to get divorced, but they were already pushing her to marry someone else.

Was it a blessing from the heavens for her to be someone’s mistress?

How much lower could she go?

Was this all that she was worth to the Diazes? Just a tool, a plaything to trade and barter with the highest bidder, all for the sake of the family’s interests?

Avery let out a pitiful laugh. The world was so wide and vast, yet there was not a single place where she could feel like she belonged.

Maybe she would be better off taking her own life. At least she would still be able to protect her dignity and hold her head up high.

Suddenly, the earth started to shake and a deafening rumble came from the skies above.

The crowd started to panic.

“What’s going on?”

“What’s happening?”

“Is it an earthquake?”

“No, it doesn’t feel like an earthquake…”

At that moment, one of the guards on duty outside the mansion came rushing towards them.

He was a disheveled, panting mess as he ran up to Robert, a look of pure horror on his face. “Master Diaz, we’re in trouble! We’re all in trouble! There’s so many of them…”

“What the f**k is going on? Can’t you speak properly?” Liam roared at the poor guard.

The guard glanced behind him once more and gulped. “M-Master Diaz, no, Mr. Diaz, there’s an army of tanks out there!”

The news caused a commotion amongst the guests. Tanks? What was going on?

Just then, someone let out a shocked yelp. “Look, isn’t that a helicopter?”

“What the f**k is a helicopter doing here?”

“It’s a military helicopter!”

“What? Are you sure?”

“Shit, can’t you see the ammunition strapped to it?”

“Maybe it’s the Southern Troops doing some sort of military drill?”

“Probably so…”

Everyone started taking out their phones to snap photos of the helicopters. It was not every day that they got to see military helicopters up close like this. They wanted to brag about it on their social media for as long as they could.

Just then, the 5 helicopters took up spots in 5 different directions, forming a pentagon as they hovered above the neighborhood.

Everyone in the mansion was stunned. Since more than half of the elites in Queenstown lived in the neighborhood, they were also getting curious about the ruckus outside and peeked out from their doors and balconies. Most of their faces darkened as soon as they recognized the military helicopters.

What were military helicopters doing in a residential area?

It was totally unheard of!

What on earth was going on here?

In no time at all, the whole of Queenstown was in a tumult.

At the Queenstown Governor’s residence, the Governor, David Henderson, could not keep up with the internal hotline. The entire office was in an uproar.

David paced about his office in a panic. He dialed his subordinate, Pete Griffin’s number and yelled into the phone. “Pete, what the hell is going on?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Henderson, I don’t know what’s going on either!”

“You mean to say that you didn’t receive any forewarning about this?”

Pete answered in a confused voice. “No, Mr. Henderson.”

“Well, what the hell are you guys doing at the Inspectorate Office? How could you not know about this?” David asked angrily. “Figure this out immediately or I’m going to fire you!”

David hung up and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

He could not brush aside the fact that five military helicopters and nearly a hundred military tanks had just appeared in his jurisdiction.

He contemplated reporting this to the Imperial Officers at the Capital. After all, something like this should not be taken lightly.

Just then, David’s secretary came running into his office holding a red file. “Mr. Henderson, we’ve just received a Red Document from the higher-ups!”

David looked at his secretary in astonishment. This was the first time he had ever received a top-secret Red Document since becoming the Governor of Queenstown.

His brows knit together tightly, feeling a sense of cold dread surge within him. He turned to the secretary and asked, “Which grade is it?”

His secretary started to tremble. “Mr. Henderson, this is a Red Document with the highest level of secrecy, written by the Emperor himself!”

David nearly blacked out from the shock of his secretary’s words. Under the laws of the Empire, he was required to kneel down to receive documents like this.

With an ashen face, David immediately straightened out his clothes and kneeled on the ground, holding out his shivering hands to receive the top-secret document.

After reading the document, David staggered and fell to the floor. “Mr. Henderson!” his secretary called out in concern, “Are you alright?”

“Quick, get the car ready and take me to Lilly Mansions. Hurry! Also… all the high-ranking Generals in Queenstown have to go with me. All of them! There’s going to be an upheaval!” David gasped out.

The secretary looked at David in confusion. What did the Governor mean?

“What are you still doing here? Hurry up and go!”

The whole of Queenstown was in an uproar. With 5 military helicopters hovering above the area and nearly a hundred military tanks on the road, even the road to the Lilly Mansions neighborhood was heavily guarded and cordoned off from the rest of the city.

At the Diazes’ home somewhere in the middle of the Lilly Mansions, another problem had cropped up.

“Boss, all our cars have been totaled! They were crushed by the tanks!”

One of the Hellish Heaven Gang members came hurrying towards the crowd, yelling at the top of his lungs. He would have been flattened along with the cars if he had not managed to get out in time.

“What did you just say? Tanks? Where did the tanks come from?”

Mateo was fuming. His cars were not cheap. They were all luxury cars, and they had cost a fortune. Now, they were all destroyed?

Enraged, he grabbed the man’s collar and started yelling at him.

In the midst of all the chaos, Sam was the only one who looked nonchalant about everything that was happening around him.

He still had a look of indifference on his face, and he looked completely unruffled by the ruckus.

Sam sat gracefully on the garden seat and poured himself a glass of wine before downing it.

The longer Liam looked at Sam, the angrier he felt. Sam should have been dead by now if it were not for the sudden brouhaha. How could he still be in the mood for alcohol?

“I can’t believe that you’re still in the mood for drinking,” Liam spat out, “You f**king lunatic!”
