Chapter 19
Paul was stunned to hear Sam’s words. Why was a commander interested in a local business in Queenstown?
He wondered if Sam was just pulling his leg. “Commander, did I hear you properly? What’s the purpose of buying a small company like this?”
“Are you done blabbering? Just do as I say.”
So, Paul went ahead and bought the company.
The city of Queenstown had a lot of traffic during peak hours. Pedestrians constantly shuffled across the streets. It had always been like this since the start of time.
However, the hustle and bustle of the city were rudely interrupted by three startling news stories.
They appeared in all the TV stations, media outlets, and newspapers in the city. They went viral on social media as well.
Avery sat on the couch and contemplated what Sam had said to her earlier.
If she really made it to become the Group General Manager at Zenith Entertainment Group, she would no longer need to worry about her daily expenses. Even if the Diazes were to take her house back, she would still have the ability to care for her parents.
Avery started harboring hope and decided to prepare for the interview tomorrow. She would probably have a higher chance of getting the position since Sam knew the owner of the company.
Just as Avery was about to prepare her resume, her phone lighted up with a new message notification.
Avery frowned slightly. She did not like receiving spammy advertisement notifications in the middle of the day, especially when they started flooding her inbox with junk messages like these.
She should really uninstall that news application from her phone soon.
After tapping on the notification icon, Avery froze in shock. The three viral headlines jumped out at her.
These headlines had already been going viral for some time. Literally, everyone in Queenstown was talking about them.
Avery’s eyes lingered on the last headline. She felt her heart sinking to her stomach. Zenith Entertainment Group had been
sold?
What kind of a coincidence was that?
Avery could not believe her eyes. Sam had told her about the job there just a few hours ago. What was with the sudden change in ownership?
It had to be a joke!
Her hopes were dashed to pieces. What was she going to do now?
Just then, Sam’s phone rang loudly.
“Commander, everything’s done and ready for you. When are you coming to pay a visit?”
“Got it. I’ll be there soon!”
Sam flagged down a cab and headed straight for Zenith Entertainment Group.
Chapter 19
As he approached his destination, Sam was pleasantly surprised to see that Zenith Entertainment Group was located in such a huge building.
He stepped onto the sidewalk just as a Maserati pulled up in front of him.
Two handsome young men and a pretty woman alighted from the car. They both wore smug grins on their faces.
Judging from their clothing and behavior, it was easy to tell that they were all social elites.
The trio was Liam, Olivia, and Lucas. They were all dressed up in some of their best clothes for the signing ceremony between the Diaz Group and Zenith Entertainment Group.
Olivia was in a particularly good mood today.
She held tightly onto her fiance’s arm and strutted with an air of arrogance. She was practically the second–in–command back at the Diazes home thanks to her future husband’s influence.
Lucas had managed to get Zenith Entertainment Group to agree to the terms of the Diazes‘ contract at just the snap of his fingers.
However, as soon as the trio laid eyes on Sam, the confident smiles on their faces were immediately replaced with sneers of disdain.
“Oh, f**k, isn’t this our dear brother–in–law?”
“What are
you doing here?”
Liam had long been itching to get back at Sam for what he did to them. Who would have thought that the perfect chance to humiliate Sam in public would be served to him on a silver platter today?
He stepped up and gave Sam a once–over before bursting out in laughter. “What’s a pile of shit doing here? Don’t you know what Zenith Entertainment Group does? They’re an entertainment group that produces idols and actors. What kind of business would you have with them to be here?” he asked in a condescending voice.
“By the way, your clothes are so ugly that I’m suffering from secondhand embarrassment.”
Sam knew that Liam was still blissfully unaware of the fact that Zenith Entertainment Group had had a change of hands. He continued watching in amusement as Liam made a fool of himself.
Before Samn could say anything, a few security guards came over to see what was going on. A middle–aged guard came up to greet Lucas. “Mr. Johnson! What a pleasure to see you here today! But what are you doing here?”
“Am I not allowed to visit my own company?”
The security guard gasped in shock and showed him an embarrassed smile. “Oh, I meant that if we’d been informed earlier that you were coming, we could have prepared a welcoming ceremony for you. So…
“Alright, alright. I don’t have the time to play games with you. I’ve got a very important meeting to attend,” Lucas said impatiently. “Send this beggar away. He’s ruining my mood.”
The security guard shot a dirty look at Sam. Why would a beggar turn up at a place like this?
“Hey, you! What are you doing there? f**k off, or I’ll throw you out!”
Olivia strutted forward in her high heels and smirked as she folded her arms across her ch*st . “Hold on, he might be here for a reason. I remember that he used to serve in the military. Maybe he’s here to apply as a security guard!”
“Huh?”
Chapter 19
Lucas could not stop himself from laughing out loud. Him, a security guard? That was just asking for trouble!
I think I know why he’s looking for a job. He’s got to help pay the bills since Avery got fired,” Liam said scornfully.
“How about I ask Mr. Johnson to let you have the job if you crawl under my legs over here?” Liam said, lifting a leg into the air and looked expectantly at Sam.
“Well? Aren’t you going to do it?”
A few of the security guards started laughing and hollering at Sam.
Sam still looked amused. He never thought that they could be so ignorant of things. He cast a look at Liam and asked, “Are you sure that you want me to do it? What if you regret it later?”
“See, I knew that you were a crazy idiot from the start. Why the f**k would I regret it later? The fact that you’re still standing here and talking to us is because we allow you to do so. Do you think that I can’t make you f**king crawl out of here if 1 wanted to?”
Right at that moment, there was a kerfuffle in the main lobby of the building. A large group of people suddenly appeared and spilled out from the entrance. Confusion was evident on everyone’s faces, especially for the security guards.
“What’s going on? What are all the company executives doing out here?” Lucas asked the security guard.
“I don’t know, I don’t remember anyone telling me anything,” said the guard.
“f**king hell, no wonder you’re only a security guard with that IQ”
Lucas hit the security guard on the head. “Don’t you think that I’m important enough?”
The guard stared at him with his m*uth agape. It looked like he was only starting to put two and two together. Realization soon dawned on him.
“Of course you are, Mr. Johnson!” he exclaimed, anxious to get back on Lucas’s good side. “We are extremely delighted to be graced by your presence! This is all for you!”
