Chapter 22
Sam Parker, surrounded by a crowd, reached the CEO office of Zenith Entertainment Group.
The office was luxuriously decorated with furniture made of high–quality mahogany wood. It also had floor–to–ceiling windows displaying the beautiful sights outside. When one looked out, the first thing they saw was the wide Longston River that sn*ked through Queenstown. The whole of Queenstown could be seen from those windows.
The office was huge and also had a small private room for the CEO to take the occasional break.
Sam folded his hands behind his back and stood as still as air, gazing at the bustling city and traffic outside the window.
But his mind was full of the vast desert of smoke, the powerful army.
Sam still yearned to fight at the northern border, guarding his home and protecting his country rather than look at the bustling city in front of him.
He turned around after a long time. Taking in his surroundings with a pensive gaze, he said impassively, “Jessica Lopez, stay. Everyone else, get back to work.”
The silent crowd of employees breathed a sigh of relief. They thought that the new CEO would make drastic changes to the company to exert his dominance, but he let them off just like that? Everyone looked at each other and quickly scuttled out
of the office.
Jessica felt a little pained after the crowd had dispersed. She secretly took a glance at Sam, slightly apprehensive. So this was the person everyone called a lunatic?
He did not look one bit like a lunatic.
Although this person was not well–dressed, his cheap clothes could not cover up the virtuous and talented air that radiated. from him. At that moment, Jessica understood what it meant to not judge a book by its cover. She warned herself to not judge people solely by appearance the next time, or else she would bring disgrace to herself.
Sam remained expressionless as he looked at Jessica and asked, “How’s the progress with Zenith Entertainment Group?”
Jessica was stunned. “The company is progressing quite well. Every project is operating as per usual.”
Sam nodded and considered. “Run the company as usual but stop any collaborations with the Diazes.”
Jessica was startled but she agreed.
It looked like, up till now, the Diazes still did not know about this so–called person of no particular talent. They would rather die than admit that Sam, this useless psychopath, actually gave them hope.
“Next time, without my approval, we will not collaborate with the Diazes!”
“Alright, Mr. Parker, I will keep that in mind.” Jessica’s face was a mask of seriousness.
“One other thing, I heard that the company lacks a general manager?” Sam asked with a frown.
“Yes, Mr. Parker! We are looking everywhere to recruit one.”
Sam went to sit on the sofa, deep in thought, and said, “From today onwards, you will be the general manager of Zenith Entertainment Group. Now all you need to do is to recruit an Assistant General Manager.”
“What?”
Chapter 22
Jessica blinked in surprise, stunned. Did her ears deceive her?
“What’s wrong? Don’t you want to be the general manager?” Sam asked when he saw the shell–shocked Jessica.
“It’s not that… This blessing came really unexpectedly, Mr. Parker. It caught me off guard.”
Sam’s expression softened. He never thought that Jessica would be so humorous. After a while, Jessica suddenly said nervously, “Mr. Parker, thank you for your trust in me. I will do everything to the best of my abilities.”
Jessica felt that her previous answer was a bit too informal, so she quickly explained herself.
Sam smiled and said, “Let me assign you something to do. I only want one person to be your Assistant General Manager
“Avery Diari
Jessica understood in a heartbeat. It looked like this guy wanted to help his wife climb up the ranks. In Jessica’s mind, this was a common occurrence and there was no need to make a big fuss about it. Her face showed that she was well aware of what Sam wanted when she replied, “I know what to do, Mr. Parker.
“This matter must not be known to the public, and don’t tell Avery that I am the CEO of the company, Sam said, pursing his l*ps
“Alright, I understand, Mr. Parker.”
Jessica’s face was filled with contempt, but she did not want to interfere with his private issues.
Jessica could be in her position at such a young age not only because of her outstanding capabilities but also because of her perceptiveness. These were the tools to her success.
This man just wanted to give his wife a surprise. Usually trampled under people’s feet, it was evident that he wanted to ‘act weak to prey on the strong!
If the Commander of the Empire knew that someone was secretly thinking these thoughts about him, what would he think
of it!
After a chat with Jessica, Sam went to the hospital to see Anne before he headed home.
He went straight to Avery’s house. He had a bone to pick with Linda Flores. She only thought of him as her son–in–law when it came to saving her own skin. After that, she told him to scram. She acted as if this was the way it should be. This type of habit needed to be fixed; it could not be the custom,
At night, he reached home just as Avery’s family was having dinner. Sam was puzzled when he saw a pretty lady next to Avery. She looked to be about the same age as his wife and seemed to be the charming type that could make one’s imagination run wild.
She had a well–developed figure, voluptuous and slightly on the plump side with flowing hair, big eyes, and a bow–shaped m*uth. She looked kind of cute.
She was Avery’s best friend, Ivery Drue. They had grown up together and were very close. She had specially come to see Avery because she heard that her best friend had not been happy recently.
Everyone stopped eating when they noticed Sam,
The first to react was Linda.
Her mood darkened the minute she saw Sam enter. She was filled with rage when she thought of what had happened earlier.
“Sam said that Zenith Entertainment Group

belonged to your comrade? Great, now it has been acquired by someone else. You thought you were all that, now you have to face the harsh reality, don’t you? Get out of my sight, I feel disgusted looking at you.”
Avery frowned as she reproached her mother. “Mom, don’t say any more. He has saved our lives before.”
Linda snorted. “So what? Should I grovel at his feet just because he saved us?”
Ivery nudged Avery’s arm lightly as she asked. “Is this your legendary husband?”
“Yes, you of all people won’t laugh at me right?”
“How could I? I’ve been your best friend since we were kids. Of course I won’t laugh at you.”
Avery looked at her doubtfully. “Don’t just say that for the sake of it. You’ve always disliked the fact that I work less. Are you even being sincere?”
Sam unexpectedly walked over and sat next to Ivery. Coincidentally, there was a half–eaten portion of food where he sat. He did not have to guess who had eaten the other half. Without a word, Sam picked up the food and started eating.
Everyone was speechless.
After a short silence, Ivery cried out, “Sam, you lunatic! That’s my food
