Chapter 3 Penalty
James’ men rushed towards Sam. This time, however, Sam did not make a move. Shadow, on the other hand, leaped into action.
Sam’s b*dyguard was called “Shadow” for a reason. He was speedier than the average person. It only took him a short while to end the lives of James’ men.
James was dumbfounded at how things had turned out. He gaped at the bodies of his men in disbelief, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He was not a fool, and he knew that he was in trouble this time.
He gulped, drawing a blank when he tried to guess Sam’s identity. He asked, “Who exactly are you?”
Sam continued to ignore him, only saying coldly, “I told you that I’d allow all of you to live if you just did as I said, yet you’ve all chosen to let your chances go to waste. Now, this is your final chance!”
James’ entire b*dy trembled at Sam’s words, sensing the intense murderous intent in them. Regardless, he refused to allow himself to look like too much of a coward.
He took a deep breath, mustered up all the courage he had, and said, “I work for Mr. Carter, from the Capital’s Parker family.”
“Mr. Carter? Are you talking about John Carter?”
James was shocked and asked shakily, “Are you Sam Parker? The one from the Capital’s Parker family? You must be, since you know who Mr. Carter is!”
Sam raised an eyebrow, his eyes flashing coldly as he said, “You went after Anne to get to me, and the Parker family is the one behind this? Very well, then… I’ll personally destroy them when the time is right!”
He snorted, then said to James, “Since he’s the one behind this, I’ll let you go today so that you can pass him a message. Tell him he has three days to surrender himself to me. Otherwise, I don’t mind paying him a little visit.”
Sam’s face was expressionless and his tone indifferent as he spoke. It was as if he was talking about something trivial.
James felt complicated. The Sam Parker that he had heard of was a weakling, yet the man he was currently facing gave off the dominant aura of someone who was used to wielding power. Even his two subordinates looked like they were harbingers of death.
“Now, scram!”
James’ face reddened in anger as he spat out, “You!”
“Go ahead and finish that sentence if you have a death wish!” Sam cut him off coldly.
James was already drenched in sweat from their earlier interactions. He knew very well that if he were to utter another word, it would be the last thing he did.
This was the first time he had felt so close to death, and his instinct told him that Sam was extremely dangerous. There was no doubt that he would act on his threat.
“Just you wait!” With that, James turned and left hurriedly.
Sam looked down at Anne, his eyes starting to tear up. He could still remember how trusting Stefan’s gaze had been while asking him to protect Anne. Fortunately, he had finally found her, alive and in one piece.
“Anne, do you still remember me?” Sam asked tenderly as he gently rubbed at the stains on her face. He did not get a response, however, as Anne was still out of it.
Years ago, Anne had lived with him for some time. She had gone missing after that great fire that had seemingly come out of nowhere. In fact, Sam himself had been afflicted with Firepox after that fire.
When he heard that Anne had died in that fire, coupled with the torture of Firepox, he had chosen to live out the rest of his life at Queenstown Psychiatric Hospital. Never in a million years would he have expected to meet a doctor there who cured him of Firepox.
After that, he had spent three years waiting for that old cell phone to ring, and he knew that Anne would be the only one to dial that number!
Sam gently ruffled Anne’s hair. His heart broke for her. She must have suffered so much over the years. He could not help saying, “Anne… Now that I’m here, no one will ever dare to lay a finger on you!”
The only thing that Sam had not expected was that the Parker family was still relentlessly trying to get rid of him. He threw his head back and laughed loudly.
