Invincible Commander by Claire Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Family Gathering

Bruce looked at his henchmen, his heart pounding at the sight of their missing limbs. He was used to being cocky and arrogant. For the first time in his life, he was petrified.

“W-What are you up to?” He stammered out.

Sam smiled. “Which hand did you touch my wife with?”

Bruce knew that he was done for. He awkwardly hid his hands behind him and looked at Sam warily.

He took a step back, gritted his teeth, and said, “I don’t care whether you’re right in the head or not. If you want to live, you shouldn’t mess with the Hellish Heaven Gang. You won’t be able to handle it when we come for you. You’ll be begging us to give you a merciful death!”

Sam struck Bruce across the face. “Is that so? I’m sorry to tell you that I’ve never even heard of your so-called Hellish Heaven Gang, so name-dropping to scare me won’t work!” After that, he suddenly grabbed hold of Bruce’s shoulder with one hand and used the other to dislocate his arm.

“Ah!” Bruce screamed in pain as beads of sweat rolled down his face. Before he could say anything, Sam gave him a wicked smile and popped his arm back into place.

Bruce’s face became deathly pale from the indescribable pain that spread throughout his b*dy.

Avery, who was standing behind Sam, had her hands clamped over her m*uth. Looking at the scene in front of her, her mind was in a mess.

Was he really nothing but a penniless psycho who had spent three years at Queenstown Psychiatric Hospital?

His whole demeanor had changed, and he was brutal toward his enemies. Avery was stunned by his dominating aura. Was this what true manliness was like?

Linda’s voice jolted Avery out of her reverie. “Avery, have you got your head in the clouds? Don’t just stand there. We need to get going, or we’ll be late for the gathering!”

Seeing that Avery was still rooted to the spot, Linda said, “Come on, this psycho can handle things here on his own. Let’s go!”

Avery shook her head. What was wrong with her? Sam was nothing more than a madman, and a fearless one to boot.

At this thought, Avery quickly walked up to Sam and said anxiously, “Sam, let them go. You’d better hurry up and leave Queenstown as well. Here are some of my savings. Take it and escape with your daughter while you still can. There should be enough to support you two for a while.”

Sam was bemused. It seemed that Avery was kinder than she looked.

At that moment, Linda stormed over to them and snatched away Avery’s card. She hurriedly said, “Avery, are you stupid or something? This is your life’s savings. You’re just going to give this to a stranger? What are you going to do in the future?”

Avery was a little upset and said, “Mom, how can you say that? He risked his life to save us. What’s wrong with giving him some money?”

She did not dare to look at Sam after what her mother had said. It was rather shameful to have a mother like her sometimes.

Linda glanced at Sam disapprovingly and said huffily, “He’s your husband. It’s only natural for him to save you. It’s not a big deal.”

“Mom! How can you say that?” Avery raised her voice.

Sam smiled as he glanced at Avery. “Why is it that you have a mother like her?”

“What… What do you mean by that?” Linda spat out. “What’s wrong with me?” She glared at Sam.

Sam looked at Linda and said with a cocky smile, “If I hear another peep out of you, I might just hand you over to them.”

“You!” Linda’s face was red with rage. She glanced at the people behind him and forced herself to swallow the words that were on the tip of her tongue.

Avery took back her card from Linda and passed it to Sam. “Take it and leave this place. Consider this a token of my appreciation…”

Sam looked at Avery and asked, “If I leave, what are you going to do if the Hellish Heaven Gang comes after you to seek revenge?”

Avery fell silent. She did not know how to answer him. Even though there was no way to rectify the situation, she could not allow Sam to get caught up in this mess. He still had a daughter to care for.

“I… I’ll find a way. It’s none of your business from now on!” Avery bit her l*p and said firmly.

“Alright, alright. You’re still my wife, aren’t you? Come on, I’m starving. We have a family gathering to attend, remember?” Sam put his arms around Avery’s shoulders and pulled her toward the car.

Avery was taken aback and followed Sam robotically, her heart racing. This was her first time coming into such close contact with a man.

Linda’s face fell. What was going on? “Let my daughter go, you…”

“Mrs. Diaz, settle down for a moment, will you? You were the one saying that it’s natural for me to save my wife, right? If that’s the case, it’s only natural for me to put an arm around her, right?”

Hearing this, Avery nearly laughed out loud. Her heart was still pounding as she obediently got into the car.

“You… You’re twisting my words around! Thomas, what are you still standing there for? Aren’t you worried about Avery? She’s married a madman!”

Bruce watched Sam get into the car. He spat out a m*uthful of blood, his voice dripping with venom as he said, “You just f**king wait! You won’t live to see tomorrow’s sun!”

On the other side of town, there were only a few people inside a lavishly decorated private room at the Diamond Royale, the largest nightclub in Queenstown.

One of them was Mateo Williams, the founder of the Hellish Heaven Gang. A third of the entertainment establishments in Queenstown belonged to him. He was a middle-aged, burly man with a cruel-looking face.

He took a drag of his cigar and blew out smoke circles. He smiled faintly and murmured, almost to himself, “Avery Diaz, you’re the only woman who has made my heart pound. I’ve had my fair share of women, but you’re the only one who arouses me.”

At this point, a man entered the room and said to Mateo, “Boss, you called for me?”

“Yes. Get some aphrodisiacs ready for me, I’ll be using them tonight…” Mateo said lazily.

“Yes, sir. I’ll get it ready right now.” The man turned and left.

Mateo watched him leave, his smile turning lecherous.

At the same time, the door to his private room opened.

Mateo, jolted out of his fantasies, was annoyed by the interruption. Who was this f**ker who dared to enter without knocking?

It was none other than Bruce.

Mateo glanced at him questioningly and said, “What’s going on? Have you brought Avery with you?”

Bruce had a wrong expression on as his eyes darted around the room. He stammered out, “Boss… T-There was an accident…”

“What?” Mateo got to his feet, his expression turning ugly. His eyes turned frosty and he asked, “What happened?”

Bruce could not help feeling a little weak-kneed. “Boss, we already had her, but some crazy f**ker came out of nowhere…”

“Get to the f**king point!” Mateo threw his cigar at Bruce’s face and gave him a strong kick. “What the f**k happened?”

After hearing Bruce’s explanation, Mateo was absolutely furious. He gave Bruce a few more kicks. “You’re all useless pieces of shit… Absolutely f**king useless. You can’t even handle a f**king crazy person? Give me a reason to keep you around!”

Bruce stuttered, “B-Boss, he used to be in the army… He’s a skilled fighter!”

“F**k off, you little coward. Where is he now?” Mateo roared.

Bruce could not help feeling aggrieved. However, he perked up at Mateo’s words. “They’re attending a family gathering at the Diaz family tonight!”

Mateo narrowed his eyes and said icily, “It looks like this Sam Parker’s got guts. Does he think he can just walk away after attacking my men? Gather all our men, we’re going to crash their party. I’d like to see whether the Diazes are stupid enough to go against the Hellish Heaven Gang!”

Bruce finally held his head high, his face filled with excitement. “Boss, I’ll get right to it.”

At that moment, the man who was asked to prepare the aphrodisiacs came in. “Boss, I’ve prepared the…”

“F**k off!” Mateo spat out.

The man was stunned. Why was Mateo suddenly so enraged? He had been drowning in his fantasies just a moment ago! Was he suffering from bipolar disorder or something?

Sam soon arrived at the Diazes’ family home, which was located in the Lilly Mansions neighborhood.

The people who stayed here were the most well-respected members of the Diaz family. Thomas was one of the lowlest members of the Diaz family, and Liam detested Avery. There was no way they would be allowed to stay here.

The family gathering they were attending was an annual affair. It was mainly for the Diazes to flaunt their wealth and influence while also allowing them to expand their network.

It was a grand event, and some of the most elite members of Queenstown’s society were in attendance.

When Sam and the others arrived, there were already plenty of people milling about the garden.

However, that did not stop some of the affluent, young bachelors from noticing Avery’s arrival. She became the center of attention the moment she showed up.

Liam was already waiting for them at the door. He smiled mockingly at Sam. “My, my. Avery, I didn’t expect that you’d really bring this psycho along! I would’ve thought that you’d be too ashamed of him.”

At this point, more and more people were watching them, trying to catch sight of Avery’s rumored crazy husband.

Just then, Olivia tottered over in her heels, looking as high and mighty as could be.

She gave Sam a once-over and laughed mockingly. “Avery, how could you just bring a beggar here? Don’t you know how important this gathering is? We even have some people from Wellspring here. How are you going to explain things to Grandpa when he sees that you’ve got a beggar with you?”

Avery frowned as her gaze swept over Sam. Indeed, he was dressed a little too casually for the night’s event. It had not even occurred to her in her hurry to get here.

Liam chimed in, “It’s okay. No one would dare find fault with a crazy person.”

The crowd tittered.

“So he’s really crazy.”

“It’s such a pity…”

A wave of helplessness washed over Avery, but she still told Liam and Olivia off. “That’s enough. Don’t overdo it.”

“Avery, how are we overdoing anything? It’s true that you married a crazy idiot, right? Just because you’re shameless doesn’t mean that the whole Diaz family is. I can’t wait to see you fail to get past Grandpa and end up getting disowned!” Liam said loftily.

At that moment, a guard came running over and said to Liam, “Mr. Diaz, the Hellish Heaven Gang just sent us a message saying that they’re going to attend tonight’s banquet!”

“What? What did you say?” Liam’s expression immediately became grave. “We’ve never messed with the Hellish Heaven Gang. Why are they suddenly showing up uninvited?”

“I don’t know, Mr. Diaz. That’s all the information I have,” the guard said.

Avery and her parents paled as they listened to Liam and the guard’s conversation. They had not expected the Hellish Heaven Gang to come after them so soon. Avery hated how useless and powerless she was. They had even gotten an innocent person dragged into this mess.

At that moment, Sam held Avery’s hand tightly and said indifferently, “There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m here, after all!”
